The study, published in the Journal of Stored Products Research, evaluated how adult Sitophilus zeamais respond to three purified essential oil-derived compounds—1,8-cineole, (S)-(–)-Limonene, and eugenol—using a four-arm olfactometer. The results show that these compounds, particularly (S)-(–)-Limonene, exhibit strong repellent effects against Sitophilus zeamais, underscoring their potential as sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic chemical insecticides for stored grain protection.
