As part of the TRACE-RICE project, INIAV has developed an innovative application using ArcGIS, aiming to create and implement a digital traceability system that connects field data directly to end consumers through QR code technology.

In collaboration with Ernesto Morgado, S.A., this solution was applied to a rice plot located in the Mondego Valley. Field data were recorded in the app, allowing for the generation of a unique QR code associated with the production of that specific plot.

This QR code was integrated into the packaging of Pato Real Malandrinho rice, which is currently available on the market, offering consumers a unique experience. By scanning the code, users can access the exact location where the rice was produced, as well as detailed reports on the agricultural practices used during cultivation.

This initiative stands out as a practical example of how digital technology can enhance traceability, increase transparency, and add value to Portuguese agricultural products for consumers.
