At the TRACE-RICE final conference last October, Inês Sousa, a PhD fellow at INIAV, presented key findings on advancing sustainable pest management in rice storage. Her work focused on behavioural insights, infestation detection, and the effects of essential oils on Sitophilus spp. insects. She also shared updates on ongoing rice trials and outlined future directions aimed at reducing dependence on conventional chemical treatments in the industry.
